Treasure Island, a book created by Robert Louis Stevenson, depicts the story of a young boy who suddenly finds himself on a wild adventure after acquiring a treasure map. Jim and his new shipmates discover most of the crew on board the ship are mutinous pirates. This caused the American people to be forced to conform to a strict set of mannerisms such as fixed gender roles in order to avoid being accused as a communist. The youth had to act, dress, and conform to premade roles created for them. Boys, for instance had to be emotionless and stereotypically masculine, while the women had to act frail and weak. This frustrated the youth, who eventually began protesting the strict rules set before them.
